Back in 2008, our daughter, Eleanor, was being treated in the oncology department of Leeds General Infirmary. Being a nosey so and so, she asked the lady on reception where she got her LUFC lanyard. My husband works there, said Mrs Lockwood. Conversations followed and I sent an email to Stix saying thanks for sending her a lanyard, which she wore with pride. Stix rang me up about a week later, asking how Eleanor was and invited us down to watch us beat QPR 2-0. We had our photo taken outside the dressing room with Luciano Becchio, her favourite player. We also got to meet Johnny Giles, one of my heroes. Fortunately, Eleanor is fully recovered now and her spell in hospital inspired her to become a children's nurse and now lives in Melbourne, Australia.

Stix didn't have to make that call, but he did.

A sign of a truly remarkable man.
