“The Gurkha Welfare Trust are very fortunate to have witnessed firsthand Stix’s remarkable commitment to supporting charitable causes. Recognising the courage and sacrifices made by the Gurkhas, Stix has taken meaningful action to support us in both our fundraising and awareness efforts.

 In 2015, shortly after the devastating earthquake that hit Nepal, Stix donated a signed poppy shirt from winger Stuart Dallas that was worn during a recent victory over Huddersfield, so that we could raise valuable funds to support our relief efforts across the country. We were then very honoured a few years later to receive a shirt signed by Hélder Costa to use in our annual online auction.

 The incredible money raised by these shirts has gone such a long way in supporting our work across Nepal, providing financial, medical, and development aid to Gurkha veterans, their families, and communities. These acts of kindness reflect not only Stix’s deep respect for the Gurkha community but also his unwavering belief in the power of football to bring people together for a greater cause.

Anecdote:

Outstandingly talented inside forward, Eric Stephenson who was born in 1914 (Bexleyheath), played for Leeds United (1933-1944). He won 2 England caps (including a 7-0 win against Northern Ireland at Old Trafford and a hat trick in a 4-3 home win over Sunderland). Eric left the club when the war broke out in 1939 and went on to become a Major in the Gurkha Rifles.  Eric sadly killed while on active service in Burma in 1944 at the age of 29.
