Stix was one of those guys who used to turn up everywhere with Leeds United – from Thorp Arch to Elland Road and countless away grounds all overthe UK and in Europe, always looking dapper in his blazer and with a twinkle in his eye. His love of the club was matched only by his compassion for fans who were poorly and needed a boost by meeting their heroes. All the players loved him and would much rather talk to him than me… but I forgave Stix that! A couple of years back I took a mate up and Stix said: “When you get to the ground, give me a call!” Terry and I arrived late and Stix was busy, but he still came out to greet us then took us on a whistle-stop tour of the West Stand – taking us to places which Terry had never seen. Finally, Stix led us down some stairs and into the players tunnel – I’ll never forget the smile on Terry’s face when he finally realised where we were going. Stix made another friend that day! – Neil Jeffries, ex-Leeds Leeds editor. |
