Away from football for a moment. My sincere condolences to the family and friends of a great Yorkshire character and sportsman, Harold “Dickie” Bird, who has sadly passed away today at the age of 92. Known for his eccentricities, warmth, and distinguished career, he became one of the most famous and respected officials in the sport’s history. I had the pleasure of meeting him on a few occasions.

RIP “Dickie”.

Aaron Lennon has returned home, as the U18 coach. Aaron joined the Leeds United Academy in 2001 and signed his first professional contract with the club on August 1, 2003. He made his first-team debut for Leeds United in 2003, becoming the youngest player to play in the Premier League at that time. He went on to make 38 appearances for the club.
Aaron earned 21 caps for the England national team between 2006 and 2013, participating in the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cups. Welcome home son.

Today, September 20th 2025, would have been the 81st birthday of Paul Madeley. The renowned Leeds United player. Paul, was born on September 20, 1944, passed away on July 23, 2018, at the age of 73.
During his 17-year career at Leeds United, from 1963 to 1980, Paul was known for his exceptional versatility, having played every outfield position except goalkeeper. Don Revie, his manager, famously described him as “Mr Rolls Royce”of footballers,” a testament to his talent and elegance on the pitch. His versatility was such that teammate Johnny Giles described him as “seven top-class players in one”. Over 700 appearances for our club and 24 appearances for England.

I have just bumped to a great old friend and Leeds United colleague. Billy worked at Leeds and kept ER & TA ticking along maintenance wise from the days pre Manny Cussins to the end of Ken Bates era. Fantastic see you again Billy, you are looking great.

What a first premier match of the season, last night. I met a lot of old friends at the game.
A great night and an even better result.

I am really looking forward to Andy & Helens charity event this Sunday, which is once again being held  at The Fleet Lane County Ground. The event is in aid of The Howarth Foundation. This is an excellent charity that supports OUR homeless, getting them into regular employment and helping them with accommodation. We should remember that we are ALL walking that thin line, anyone of us come become homeless at any time, so please come along and lend your support. I am double booked this Sunday with this and another Q  & A event but I will certainly be there for the first part, hoping to see a few of you and also to meet up with a few old friends that are actually playing on the day.
See you there.

An absolute cracking day yesterday. The first home game of the season and the meeting of some good friends and supporters again.

1/08/25

Very much looking forward to the first home game of the 25/26 fixture tomorrow. I hope to see you all there. Please come and say hello, I am always available for chat.

Also on Sunday 10.00am to 3pm, Tony Clark will be at The Springs Thorp Park with his selection of statues and shields available for purchase (possibly your last chance to own a piece of Leeds United history).  I am sure he too would appreciate a visit from you, I’ll be calling down at lunch time to say hello.

28/07/25

Called in at St George’s Crypt in Leeds City centre today. Dropped a few goodies off. These people are  fantastic. 120 client hot meals per day, is just one of their missions. Any support you can give them would be appreciated. Remember we ALL walk a thin line, re homelessness.

Also I bumped into Jack and his family in town. Thank you for your support.

27/07/25

A new Players Post on my site, thank you David. Your a great character.

Thank you to my new sponsor Tony Basks.

25/07/25

I was at Elland Road last night for an executive supporters club meeting. Quite a few things on the agenda. Also Dave Tomlinson and Rob Endeacott address the meeting on behalf of their committee, re The Wilko92 campaign. The venture requires all of our support to help raise the £140g to erect the statue in honour of HW. Please if you have any fund raising ideas, get in touch. They need everyone’s assistance in this and hopefully the club will get financially involved also 💙🤍💛.

14/07/25

A sad day in football today, as Uriah Rennie is laid to rest. Uriah past away at the age of 65. A gentleman that I was very fortunate to meet and have a laugh and joke with on many occasions and also call a friend. A great character within our game and he will be sadly missed by all that knew him.
RIP Uriah.

I am really looking forward this morning to today’s event.
The Elliott Bransby Memorial Day at The South Leeds Stadium ( The  John Charles Centre). Please come along and give your support, (LS11 5DJ). It’s impossible to list all of the celebs that are attending, as I asked another ex player yesterday (last minute me), if he would bob down. This event is in its third year and I have been fortunate to have been involved in each one.
I will get some footage for you to look at, so more to follow tomorrow.

The Armed Forces Day.
I had a terrific time in Leeds City Centre today. I met a lot of old friends (and I emphasise the word old), but I also met quite a few younger supporters of our great club for the first time. The Lord Mayor of Leeds Dan Cohen, LCC Councillors, Serving Personnel and our Military Veterans were also in attendance. Also, it was a great pleasure for me to meet Ed Anderson again, the Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, who is now in his final year in office. An absolutely fabulous day, with weather to match.

23/06/25

Just had a cracking (the pavement flags, with the heat) cracking week at the East Coast with Anne. I had to come back to Leeds twice within the week, one was for The Scot FC Presentation evening, that I sponsor, (I will be adding the players and staff, smashing video messages to the kids) on my Video Page shortly. Thank you all for those.
The second trip was an invitation to see Howard at The Old Peacock for the launch of  The Wilko92 Campaign , another great night (more on this later).
Both these trips were well worth the drive there and back.

21/06/25

So sorry to be informed that Mike Smith has passed. You might remember Mike from the Mike’s Carpet, fame. Our thoughts are with his family& friends.
Mike is on the left of this picture, with Billy (Peace) & myself.
RIP Mike.

17/06/25

Another fair commute to this event last night for me but once again well worth it. I will have more pictures & content on this soon but it was the official launch of The Wiko92 Campaign. It was held at The Old Peacock on Elland Road.
Thank you for asking me to attend.

16/06/25

Recommendation:
If you are on the East Coast at all. The Tow Bar at Cayton Bay is the place to visit. Fantastic food and great value. James and Nikki and their staff will be happy to see you. We had a great evening.
See you again very soon.

14/06/25

Just had a cracking presentation evenings with the kiddies football team I sponsor, quite a drive there but worth it. I would like to thank all the present and ex players and of course the boss, who did me little presentation videos to start the event, at Beechwood Social Club.

Last night I attended another of the TV Harrison committee meetings. This one was appertaining to the installation of a forthcoming official Blue Plaque.
These dedicated people, who have the local residents backing, have put so much work into this community project over the years to save this local historical amenity for the children of Leeds, they deserve a medal.
I am proud to be associated with them.

Hi all. I have been asked recently on numerous occasions by club supporters if I had any historical pictures or clips etc, going back over my long service to our club. I have always shied away from this because I would be adding content constantly but, after thinking about this more and more as more and more people have asked, I have decided that it would be an opportunity to share some classic stuff from my archives over the years. So, ‘coming soon’ will be a ‘Nostalgia page’ – keep an eye on the website and watch this space! 😉.

Sir my apologies, I have misplaced your telephone number, re the school visit.

23/05/25

Today I was invited to St George’s Crypt to give a wee speech for a very special person at the event.

The official retirement of Mr Brian Normanton, who has been a servant of the crypt and it’s clients for (as he kept telling all there) 21years, 3 months and 21days. Brian says he has seen many many changes over the years at the crypt, including new external venues, that have been set up and made available for homeless clients.

Brian has been a fanatical Leeds supporter all his life. So it was my pleasure to call in and say a few words and present Brian with a framed picture.

Here’s Brian with some of his team members at The Crypt. Enjoy your retirement my friend. MOT.

I bumped into four generations of the same family all Leeds supporters.

Grandad brought his son to one of my matchday tours, a long time ago.

That son brought his son to do the similar, matchday tour.

Now a father himself, that son was looking forward to keeping that tradition going with me with his own son – sadly, I had to let them all know that that’s no longer possible.

Was great to see you all. My apologies again that I couldn’t help this time, I’d have loved to have taken you all around again, and especially to have shown the youngest member of your family round our great club for the first time!

At my request, I had a meeting today with the club regarding the collection of my personal items from my Elland Road office. I met two lovely young ladies for the first time from the club, who could not have been more helpful and understanding. Lou and Rachael, you are a credit to the club, thank you.

21st May.

I had a fabulous time today at The Leeds Veterans Club.
I was invited down to give a speech and I was delighted to do so.

The event takes place at The Merchant Bar on Woodhouse Lane in Leeds on the third Wednesday of the month. All ex-military personnel are made welcome.

A great bunch of people go along.

If you are a veteran please give it a go and bob in for a drink, a bite to eat and a natter.
Everyone is made welcome by Spud and his staff.  I will certainly be re visiting soon.
I was honoured to be invited.

Monday 19th May 2025.
Today is the funeral in Canada of Leeds United’s first black footballer. Mr Gerry Francis .

The Bridge (Marcelo Bielsa)
.
Martín Bland (aka We One-Nil)
Chairman of Leeds United Iberia & Leeds United Valencia
I’ve known Stix for a long time – longer than he’s known me because for many years I was one of the hundreds of people he helped out with access to players, advice on overseas trips, ticketing issues etc; too many people for Stix to remember individually but for each one of them, Stix was an essential link into the club. Marcelo called him the  Bridge.
So, when I established Leeds United Valencia, Stix was the man I turned to when, from 2,000km away, we wanted to present our annual Player of the Season award. But Stix, being Stix, didn’t just hand something over and leave it at that; he went the extra mile, without being asked, so my signed photo and video message from Raphinha is thanks entirely to him.
Could it get any better? Well, yes! When I established Leeds United Iberia, an umbrella federation of supporters groups from across Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar, and Andorra, Stix was the man I turned to, once again, to help me find a route to Marcelo Bielsa – the man we wanted to ask to be our Honorary President. Stix opened a route for me to write, and eventually to talk to Marcelo, who accepted our offer.
Stix Lockwood is a true gentleman; happy to help, generous, and genuine. He was Marcelo’s bridge, and our bridge to Marcelo, and Leeds fans across all of Iberia owe him a debt of gratitude.
Martin Bland.

I am so sorry to have just received the news of the passing of Leeds United’s first black player.
A gentleman who I saw play and had the pleasure to meet on many occasions.

Mr Gerry Francis (91), a shoe maker born in 1933 in South Africa. He joined Leeds United in 1959. A gentle mild mannered lovely man.
My thoughts are with Mrs Francis and their family.

RIP Gerry.

——

What a day.

Not only did we go up to the premiership as the Championship League Winners, ole ole. Our granddaughter Quinn, was the player of the match in her fixture.

——

Mirco Antenucci.

At 40yrs of age, Mirco Antenucci has retired from football. Mirco was one of the five Italian players brought into Leeds United by Massimo Cellino in 2014.

At his last game for his present club SPAL, they gifted him a very special football shirt with all the clubs that Mirco has played for on it.

29/4/25.
Yesterday was another great day in our history. Pre match the city was buzzing. The Moot Hall was open until 3am after the game, it was crazy but something never to be forgotten. Speaking of forgetting, lets not forget what the manager and team have achieved this season, it has been an unbelievable ride for us Leeds fans.

22/4/25.
A FANTASTIC DAY YESTERDAY:

PROMOTED to The Premiership:

What great support we have in and around our club. I woke up this morning a bit worse for wear and with a very sore throat, but to an email that sums up the feelings that people have for our club. I am sure he will not mind me sharing it with you.

” Good morning and congratulations to a very happy Stix and all at Leeds. A great day for all -at last back where Leeds United Utd and all fans should be”.

Onwards and upwards.
Howard W

Happy Easter All – Today, please spare a thought for everyone.

Last night I was very honoured, and even more humbled, to receive this certificate in recognition of the small part that I have played in this most-vital campaign, alongside so many dedicated people who have contributed so much themselves over such a long period of time.
To be able to now safeguard the future of the site, to protect it’s rich history and to enable the community to benefit from it’s continuing existence as a sports ground in the years to come is a fabulous achievement, and one you should all be incredibly proud of.
Congratulations, and well done to all.
MOT, Stix

Happy Birthday Chief.

What a day, today.

Martin Bland of The Iberia Whites, over for tomorrows game. Hopefully taking 3pts back to Valencia with him. Thank you for the present Martin.

Leeds St George’s Crypt.
Just had a fantastic day with Martin, Chris and their dedicated staff members down at St George’s Crypt.
Along with a lot of other things, the Crypt caters for up to 120 Clients for lunch daily, (no mean feat).

The Crypt rely heavily on donations from businesses as well as general public.

I spoke to four clients who had nothing but praise for the Crypt’s “Growing Rooms” programme, which they are all were participants of.

We have supported the Crypt for many years, and I have personally witnessed the amazing results of their fabulous work.

As you see these people around the City Centre, please remember that they are individuals just like you and I and that many of them are homeless and that some of them are also ex-military personal.

To The Crypt Charity, from me,  thank you for your hospitality today and, more importantly, thank you for your never-ending hospitably for your clients.

4th February. A fantastic evening tonight at The Hollywood Bowl at York, for the 2015 Leeds United Academy Alumni. To see some of the young players again, that had now grown up into young men, some of which are still playing at various clubs, who I had the pleasure of being involved with at the academy over the years, made my night. I was honoured to be invited again for a second year to the event. Also in attendance were past and present academy staff. I will post pictures once I receive them. We then went on to watch the U18’s at the LNER Stadium, where once again I came across some great ex senior players, Ian Harte, Richard Cresswell and Andy Gray, to name but a few. Thank you for the invitation TA, another cracking evening.

Good morning. A prize today for someone else.  A brand new pair of Adidas Predators size 8, given to me by one of our players. Unfortunately, very unfortunately these are red too.

Contact me through the site and I’ll do a draw after 2 days to pick a winner.

It doesn’t seem like three years ago, while Stix was in Marcelo’s office doing his morning mail, that Marcelo informed him that the gym he was designing and equipping in the East Stand at the ground for the use of the Elland Road Staff was to be named after him, and called ‘Stix 61 …’.  Marcelo went on to explain that  the ’61’ was for his years of service to the club and the’ …’ were for ‘on on on’.
